A mother-of-two, identified as Mrs. Blessing Eno, has been arrested by the police in Cross River State for allegedly beheadding her 11-month-old son in the Yonen community of Ugep, Yakurr LGA of the state. The unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday, November 29. Vanguard reports that the suspect, who may be suffering from Schizophrenia (Mental Disorder), took out a matchet and cut  off the head of the baby, claiming that the child was disturbing her and a spirit instructed her to slaughter the boy. FG, NBC shuts AIT, STV others over N2.6bn debt

The National Broadcasting Commission, on Friday, directed the African Independent Television, Silverbird Television and the broadcasting corporations run by various state governments to shut down their operations within the next 24 hours over debts amounting to at least N2.6bn. The Director-General of the NBC, Balarabe Ilelah, disclosed this to journalists at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja. According to the NBC, all the television and radio stations affected must halt operations in the next 24 hours. He noted that the stations owe a total of N2.6bn; adding that some of the stations affected have not renewed their licences since 2015. Atiku and Wike have been at loggerheads over the emergence of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as the vice-presidential candidate of the PDP. Security operatives attached to Rivers State Government House on Friday sealed a petrol station and two hotels owned by some associates of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, in Port Harcourt, the state capital. The properties sealed are Mega Tools filling station located at Ojoto street in Diobu area owned by Dr Chinyere Igwe, Priscy lounge at Elekahia area owned by Hon Jones Ogbonda and Preray hotel in Eagle Island belonging to Ikechi Chinda. Report has it that, the three business owners are associates of Rt. Hon. Austin Opara, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and former allies of Governor Nyesom Wike. A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has expelled the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Hope Uzodinma. The factional chairman, Daniel Nwafor, told reporters on Thursday at the party’s secretariat in Owerri, the state capital, that Senator Uzodinma was expelled on the basis of alleged inordinate and anti-party activities. Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education, said lecturers would not be paid for the six months they are absent from work. He disclosed that the measure would serve as a penalty over the “behaviour of ASUU.” Addressing State House Correspondents in Abuja yesterday, the Minister said lecturers would think twice before they join strike. The National Association of Nigerian Students on Thursday said it would commence processes to sue the Nigerian government and the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, over the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The students association in a statement on Thursday said the minister erred and had not got anything right in the education sector since his appointment. The NANS President, Sunday Ashefon, said, “Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to the Minister of Education Malam Adamu Adamu where he suggested that Nigerian students affected by ASUU strike must sue ASUU for liabilities suffered as a result of the strike. “Perhaps the only thing Malam Adamu Adamu has gotten right since he became a Minister is the fact that Nigerian students needed to be compensated for their wasted time, opportunities and resources.
